Between reading books on animal totems and the history of different Greek goddesses, I guess these kinds of designs were inevitable. At the time I painted this one, I had a gallery in Taos, New Mexico. I put it on the floor and it sold within the hour. Maybe she was reading the same books. The butterfly goddess is all about the change and metamorphosis we humans experience on our own paths, which is more often than not trial by fire. We hope we rise from the ashes. The white butterfly goddess is rising from the fire with her new wings against a night landscape of deep green hills with erupting volcanos and the full moon, bordered in purple and fuchsia triangles.
