Road runners are everywhere in New Mexico, but you hardly ever see one. You are considered kind of special if you have had the rare opportunity to see a road runner. I met people who had lived there all their lives, and had yet to see one. I was on a high mesa road one day in the middle of nowhere on my way to the hot springs when three of them went zooming across the road in front of me. I almost ran off the road I was so excited. I wasn’t even sure what they were since I had never seen one, but their long tails and lightening speed were the telltale signs. This sighting deserved a design. Here is my road runner in full stride between cactus in the orange desert with a backdrop of sienna mesas, pink hills, snow topped mountains and the famous blue New Mexican sky with a green zigzag border.
