I recently did this butterfly painting on board as part of an upcoming mural contest here in Vero Beach. The town is interested in updating itself, and wants to begin with a mural depicting the butterfly as its symbol for new change. The earthbound caterpillar carries within the magical power of metamorphosis as it weaves itself into the darkness of a cocoon from which it emerges as a winged work of art. The butterfly is a potent metaphor for our human capacity to re-create ourselves from the inside lout, and become the change we want to see in the world.
