Orange Sea Dragon

Acrylic on paper, 10″x 14″

Sea dragons are related to seahorses, but unlike their latter relatives, sea dragons are covered in leaf-like appendages. Leafy sea dragons use this unique, physical design along with sharp spines as protection from ocean predators. Like their seahorse cousins, it is the male sea dragon that incubates the eggs and gives birth to their offspring. While their colors vary widely, shallow water sea dragons tend towards lighter shades compared to the more vibrant hues of those dwelling in deeper water, like this vivid orange sea dragon.
