My step-sister’s name is Ann Charlotte, but I call her Ancha for short. She brought me some lovely flowers one day which I placed in a white pitcher. The buds on them kept blooming and blooming until at last, the heavy blossoms began to droop. One early evening, the light cast upon my pale periwinkle kitchen walls created rich cobalt hues that begged a painting of Ancha’s everlasting flowers.
