Initiation
Aqua oil on canvas, 36″x48″
I rented a mountaintop palapa one winter in Zihuatanejo, Mexico that overlooked the ocean. Some days there were hundreds of butterflies in the jungle around the palapa. I had never seen so many before in one spot. My favorite was the beautiful, blue butterfly. Sometimes I would stand on the porch while they flew all around me, and I felt as though they were giving me an initiation into life as a butterfly.
