The gorge in Taos is something to behold the first time. It looks like a giant crack in the earth as it is a deep, narrow canyon through which the Rio Grande river runs. It cuts right through the mesa that runs west of Taos, and there are only two roads to get you across. One is on the north end of town, and the other on the south. It is another world out there on the mesa as well as down in the canyon.
