I do not know what it is about the captivating cypress trees that dot the Italian countryside. We hiked over to this outcropping, and had a picnic lunch. We were bathed by the powerful, sweet fragrance that comes from the essential oils in the wood of these Tuscany trees. An Italian farmer told us later that the cypress trees, supposedly native to Persia and brought to Italy by the Etruscan tribes, possess mystical powers. And they can live to be 2000 years old!
