Rain Offering

Aqua oil on canvas, 36″x60″

I lived on a beautiful ranch once south of Santa Fe in New Mexico. This was the view from my art studio there. It was one of those extremely dry summers when the monsoons came with nothing but a tease of rain. We were all waiting for the clouds to unload a deluge of much needed water. Though the clouds would build every afternoon, they just wouldn’t drop the rain. One day I had a vision of  a woman lying in the hills, her red hair weaving across the desert like snakes. I think she was asking the sky for a rain offering.
